“Liefdesbriewe” is a collection of intimate Afrikaans songs written by an expat far from home. Afrikaans is my third language, but it’s the language I chose for this project because it carries my deepest memories of home.
These songs are my little love letters — snapshots of belonging, distance, resilience and hope. They move from cinematic power ballads to earthy Afro-Afrikaans grooves and edgy electronic anthems, all tied together by a raspy female voice.
I didn’t leave home by choice. Yet nothing can take away the people, the land and the stories that live in me. “Liefdesbriewe” is my way of keeping that connection alive through music.
